Meet Leslie Dumont

I’m an AP Literature teacher at one of the top three high schools in Montgomery County, with experience teaching at both the high school and college levels. I love teaching—it’s my passion, and it’s what I do best. I’ve helped countless students gain admission to their reach schools and, more importantly, feel confident in their writing and their voices.

One of my greatest strengths is working with students who think they “haven’t experienced anything” and helping them uncover the story they truly want to tell about themselves. I’m used to working with students who initially struggle to think of anything to write—and who, by the end of our time together, realize they actually have loads to say.

My coaching sessions often feel a bit like therapy sessions. Anyone who knows teaching knows that educators are also counselors, all packaged into one. Students often find it easier to open up to someone who isn’t their parent, and I’ve learned to create a warm, supportive space where they can do just that. My goal is to help each student not only craft a compelling essay but also feel seen, heard, and proud of the story they’re sharing.

Testimonials

“Your guidance throughout the college application process helped me build my own confidence and set me up to be a strong candidate in the college application process. During a stressful time like application season, it is very easy to fall behind and feel overwhelmed but having Ms. Dumont to talk to showed me that I had support and ensured that I was painting myself to admissions officers in the best way possible.”

“My son is not a talker. He never has been. I tried for months to help him with his college essay during his junior year and it felt like a struggle each time. I was frustrated with him and with the whole process. He just did not seem motivated. But then he got you as a teacher. I will never forget walking past his bedroom late one evening and seeing him so focused on writing his college essay. I asked him if he needed any help and he said, ‘It’s Ok, Ms. Dumont helped me with it.’ I was so impressed by what he wrote, but even more impressed by the confidence and motivation I saw in him. He was writing every single night and nobody had to force him to do it. You changed the game for him, Ms. Dumont. He talks about you all the time and how yours was the first English class he actually enjoyed. He got into 9 schools and I have to say that I think you and your mentorship are the reason. We are so grateful for you.

“Thank you for fully supporting me and pushing me to write the best college essay I could. Your feedback and encouragement and patience made such a huge difference and my essay would not have turned out the way it did without your guidance. I truly appreciate the time and effort you put in to helping me feel more confident in my writing and in myself.”
